- The standard variety for Southern gardens
- Finely crinkled, blue-green leaves
- No serious disease or pest problems
A widely adapted variety for both Southern and Northern gardens, Vates Blue Curled Kale produces attractive, finely crinkled, blue-green leaves that are delicious in salads, stews and as chips. Very cold hardy, it's also slow to bolt and does not yellow from heat or frost. A light frost improves the tenderness of its leaves. A compact variety, it grows 12-14 in. tall. This variety exhibits no serious disease or pest problems. A floating row cover can be used to protect the young plants from early insect infestations. Kale is a cool weather crop and can be grown in the spring or the fall. Baby leaf in 25–30 days; mature leaves in 50–60 days.
