Dicentra, or bleeding hearts, are a mainstay perennial for the shade garden, and we love this new twist on an old favorite. The bold red, white-tipped, heart-shaped, 1-in. flowers on arching stems are sure to brighten the shade garden when they bloom in mid spring and summer. Valentine Dicentra grows 28-32 in. tall with a similar spread. The bushy clumps have attractive deep green leaves that have hints of purple when they emerge in the spring. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Deer tend to avoid. Ideal for borders, cut flowers and containers. Grows best in full to partial shade. Zones 3-9. PP22739
