- Dark green, low-care groundcover
- Worry-free: deer-resistant, no serious pest or disease issues
- Thrives where grass does not
- Excellent for erosion controlSpreads quickly, grows thickly
In the right spot, this grass-like perennial groundcover is a godsend. Does well under shallow-rooted yard trees; prevents erosion on embankments and difficult-to-landscape slopes. Give it average soil and full or part-day sun. Its spreading root system will fill in quickly and well, the bladelike leaves reaching only about knee-high. Easy to care for, just clean up and mow each spring. Small white or pale purple flower spikes occur in late summer into fall but are mostly hidden by the foliage. Evergreen in warmer climates such as the South or Gulf Coast.
Does fine in full or partial sun. Reaches 18 inches tall, 24 inches wide at maturity. Zones 4-10.
