The self-fertile plant bears fruit in the first year if planted early enough in the spring—and at maturity, the plant bears 4-5 lbs. of fruit. Hinnomaki Red Gooseberry is a Finnish variety that's mildew resistant and cold hardy. Fruits ripen in July. Zones 3-6.
