- Purple striped wrappers and cloves streaked with purple
- Large and uniform bulbs
Size, flavor and uniformity give Deerfield Hardneck purple garlic an edge. Its thin, white, purple striped wrappers house tan cloves with purple streaks. Deerfield produces large, meaty purple stripe garlic with a rich garlic flavor that starts out mild and finishes with a spicy kick. Like other hardneck garlic varieties, Deerfield performs best in cooler climates and is best planted in the fall. In early summer, it produces scapes that are favored by gourmet chefs for their mild garlic flavor. These curly stalks are also sometimes used in floral arrangements. Approx. 7-10 cloves per bulb.
