Start off sweet cherry season with large, purple-black fruits that are sweet, richly flavored and juicy. Black Tartarian Cherry Tree is a longtime favorite among home gardeners. The vigorous tree is very productive and bears at an early age. The fruits have a dark red flesh and are excellent for eating fresh and making into juice. A good choice for the edible landscape, Black Tartarian Cherry produces showy blossoms in the springtime and also makes a good shade tree. It's also an ideal pollinator for other sweet cherry trees. We recommend planting with Bing, Royal Ann or Stella. Requires 900 chill hours. Zones 4-8.
