Most are wonderfully scented. For best performance, they should receive not more than 4 hours of sun a day and this preferably in the morning. They are heavy feeders, so they require a rich, deeply worked soil and some annual fertilizing. The plants take 3 - 4 years to flower, thereafter they produce flowers annually. They are best given plenty of room. A winter mulch in northern areas where frost heaving is a problem is recommended. Remove in spring before growth starts. Good resistance to P $ D problems.
