Root crops may not be as exciting as tomatoes and peppers, but they belong in every garden. Plant plenty for winter storage. Turnips, rutabagas and parsnips add rich flavor and vitamin C to winter soups and stews. Turnips also contain carotenoids, which encourage normal cell growth.
