Sugar Pearls Apricot Tree
Sugar Pearls Apricot Tree
The Most Heavenly Tasting Stone Fruit You Can Grow!

  (1 customer reviews)

After tasting Sugar Pearls we were at a loss for words to describe the full bodied, sweet golden-honey flavor of this incredible white apricot. Totally unlike any apricot (or any other fruit for that matter) you’ve ever tasted, bursting with sun-sweetened nectar, it’s just too good to pass up! Can bear as quickly as a year after planting and blooms much later than all other apricot varieties- so even if you were too far north to grow apricots before- now’s your chance! For best yield, plant 2 or more trees. Ripens late June to early July. PPAF. Not available in CA, OR, WA.

Zones 4-7.

Product Details
Zones: 4-7 (-20 F. )
Height: 10-12 feet
Spacing: 10-12 feet
Spread: 10-12 feet
Sun/Shade: Full sun
Pollinator: Pollinators for Sugar Pearls are any late blooming apricot such as Harlayne. In Zone's 5 and north Goldcot can pollinate it due to a tighter bloom period and Goldcot flowering will overlap that of Sugar Pearls.
Yield: 1-3 bushels
Color: Pinkish
Foliage: Light green
Blooms: April early May
Fruit: Gold ball size, or slightly larger golden fruit with rosy blush, pale cream flesh.
Comments: Moderately thick, tough, golden yellow skin. Juicy, fine textured, medium orange, freestone flesh. Fertilize after tree has reached bearing age. Plant with graft 1/2 inch above ground. Thin fruits to develop largest size of remaining fruit. Tangy flavor. Consistently heavy bearer. Somewhat resistant to bacterial leaf spot. Special considerations: Prepare an area 36" in diameter, clearing all sod and weeds. Work the soil 24" deep. Dig the planting hole right before planting, deep enough and wide enough to accommodate the roots without crowding. Plant bareroot trees 1" deeper than they were grown in the nursery. Plant grafted trees with the graft union 1" above the soil, 2-3 inches is better. Never let the roots dry out. Soak the roots no more than 24 hours before planting. Fill the hole with soil and firm around the roots. Water well to remove any air pockets. Fill in the rest of the hole with soil and water again. Only mix a slow release fertilizer formula into the planting hole. Best to prune in early spring.

Expectations Not Met
Reviewed By: Norbert NEAL (Elk City, Kansas)
What I received was not what I expected. The bare root specimen is alive and with my ability and care will surely flourish over time. Time is the issue! This tree should have been grown for at least another year if not two before being offered for sale. My "tree" doesn't even qualify as a "whip" in nursery terms. The term "caliper" does not apply. Hopefully, mine was just an oversight and not typical of Gurney's tree offerings. I look forward to living long enough to write a very favorable review of an outstanding white apricot offered only by Gurney's Seed and Nursery. Note: I have been buying fruit trees from various sources for over forty years and have planted more than sixty trees in four different states as my company moved me around.
