Amur River Privet Hedge
Amur River Privet Hedge
Drought Resistant and Easy to Trim

  (4 customer reviews)

Fast growing and long lived! Glossy foliage frames 3-inch clusters of white flowers in May and June, keeps its rich green color late into fall. Bears ebony berries in late fall that cling all winter long. Grows to 10 feet but is easily squared off for a manicured look. Produces a solid screen in a year.

Hedges divide a yard into separate spaces for outdoor entertaining, for gardening and for setting off a stretch of lawn. They are far more attractive then fencing and much less expensive.

Zones: 3-7.

Wow!

Planted a long row of these for a hedge. Started literally as tiny sticks in the ground. First year they grew quite a bit. Second season a few (15 out of 75) didnt make it, unsure why, but Gurneys replaced them free of charge. This is the third season and these things look great, most plants are appox 5 ft high and ready to be trimmed to thicken them up. Highly recommend these plants and Gurneys is the only place I'd buy from!

Doesn't like snow
Reviewed By: Living on the Hedge (Northern, Maine)
Planted them two years ago and they are definately not fast growing where I live. They've gotten to about two and a half feet tall each year but if you live in an area which receives lots of snow be aware that they will all be broken when the snow melts. I would suggest a making some protective covering for them if you do get lots of snow. For me, trying to grow an 80 ft long hedge would demand too much winter preperation. Might as well make a fence and be done with it.

Hedge

When we received these shrubs, I was sad to see how small they were. We planted them, and were so surprised how well they did the first summer. This is our 3rd summer and we actually have a hedge!
