Reviewed By: Kathy Calhoun (Ione, WA) This is the perfect plant, because after you plant it and keep watered the first year you just never have to do a thing to it. It's nitrogen fixing berries feed it, it is drought tolerant, the bees love it's yellow flowers and it's thorns keep animals from passing through the yard AND the deer don't eat it! See! Perfect! We planted some 17 years ago, little sticks from Gurneys, they are now about 12 feet tall, and have grown into a terrific natural fence. They even look beautiful in winter with the snow covering their branches. - Tuesday, May 29, 2007sticks to trees Reviewed By: Theresa G (Ellensburg, Washington) Neighbors and friends thought we were nuts when we ordered over 200 plants to make a complete Caragana hedge around our property. They arrived looking like dried out 12 inch pencils, so we soaked them over night and planted them the next day into a properly prepared trench with mulch. Ten years later, we have one of the most impressive hedges that people comment constantly. We prune them in the fall, to make for a dense base in the spring. Moose and deer hate them which is a bonus. Aphids love them, which is a minus, but with a quick soap spray, they move off the trees quickly. It is an impressive 8 foot tall, thick and full of yellow blossoms right now ....and we thank you Gurneys for the great quality stock. - Monday, March 12, 2007Hedge or tree Reviewed By: Sherry (Wales, Utah) I have had this Caragana Hedge for 22 year. I have planted mine at the lawns edge mixed in with lilacs as they grow much the same speed and height. They are hard to kill and wild life seem to leave them alone. My 100+ foot hedge looks nothing like the photo shown; it is not nearly as dense, but is quite interesting and will attract bees. The Siberian Pea Tree sounds like popcorn popping when the seed pods dry and pop open. The seedlings transplant very well and it is also easy to seed. Like lilacs, they seed in the lawn, but will die out. I just rake all the trees seeds, pods and leaves back into the bed as it makes excellent mulch. Read More Reviews |
