Nutty-flavored Green Globe Artichoke to boil whole. Peel off the meaty petals to dip in butter or Hollandaise sauce, then remove the "choke" and reveal a tender core that's absolutely delicious. Perennial in Zones 7-10, grow as an annual elsewhere.

Comments: Grows best in frost-free areas with cool, foggy summers. Plants grown in the North tend to be killed by frost before they become large enough to flower. Keep well watered and fertilize with 15-30-15. In fall, cut plants a few inches above the ground. In the North, cover with half-bushel baskets and mulch over them. Flower heads develop the second year. Replace plants every 3-4 years. Harvest flower buds when they are about the size of a fist and before they begin to open.
