America's Favorite White Corn
(3 customer reviews)Gurney's Choice Silver Queen Hybrid Sweet Corn combines size, sweetness and lasting quality! Ears are 8-9 inches long with 14-16 rows of creamy kernels. Leaf blight tolerant. 88 DAYS. Sweet corn has come a long way! Choose from high-sugar hybrids (su) that are sweeter at harvest and stay that way for up to 10 days, super-sweet hybrids (sh2) with their even higher sugar content and crisp texture, and sugary-enhanced hybrids (se) that are sweet, creamy and extra tender. Grew up with my dad raving about 'Silver Queen', eating year after year and creating a lincoln log style pyramid with the used cobs. As dad grew older, all he wanted was his new false teeth to be installed so he could once again enjoy 'Silver Queen'. I grew up on 'Silver Queen' and enjoyed many an year. I figure, if its perfect - why mess with it. IE: there may be better varities out there... but I could care less. - Monday, June 09, 2008So close to perfection Reviewed By: Chris (Howell, MI) My father grew this corn for years and it is easily one of the best tasting I've ever eaten. Sweet without being syrupy, crisp texture, an outstanding gem in all flavor aspects. The plants are strong and tall and the yields are excellent, though its production life is relatively short. I started growing it again last year and had a serious problem with smut development and I remember my father having the same problem with this variety. While I haven't written of this variety, I will be trying new varieties to see if I can find one with comparable flavor, but better disease resistance. - Friday, June 22, 2007Silver Queen is King Reviewed By: Steve Cox (Greensburg, KY) When it comes to white corn...Silver Queen is King. It stands well and has strong stalks. Great tasting too. Very hardy. Read More Reviews |
