Red La Soda Potato
Reviewed By: Cusson (Manchester, NH)
One offer of potato ordered yielded two-five gallon pails full of potatoes of various sizes. These potatoes are very easy to grow and sprout quickly. We intermixed the starter sets with bush beans and the two did very well together and grew almost as fast. The potato plants grew to almost three feet and we had to use tomato cages to keep our garden orderly (to access the beans). The potato plants adapted very well and vigorously grew with very little pest problems. They loved the direct sunlight and Miracle Gro fertilizer. It was extremely tempting to pick the potatoes early, but we patiently waited and used straw around the base of the plants to protect them through the light frosts until we finally harvested them in November. These potatoes had a very solid white tasty flesh and had a good long shelf life (approx two months) without any problems. We ate them, skins and all in various dishes. My wife loved them so much she refused to let me serve them to any guests. We have saved many more starter sets from this first season to start our second season. Can you guess....we are planning a bigger garden this year!!!
