Several years ago I bought a "discount" rose bush out of a pile of "unspecified" roses. It grew one silvery light blue rose with no hint of pink a year that was a beautiful shade for about 4 years. Unfortunately, it was out front and each year someone would come by and pick the rose as soon as it began blooming. In the final year someone pulled out the entire plant broke off the rose then mangled and discarded the plant at night and I couldn't save it. I've been searching ever since and haven't been able to find anything even close. I haven't tried this one but am looking forward to trying it. - Wednesday, April 30, 2008Acidic soil makes blue Reviewed By: Tab (Elk Creek, VA) I've been studying flowers and I've learned from 'edu' websites that acidic soil produces the blue color in flower (like blue hydrangea). You should be able to make your soil acidic by mixing in coffee grounds to your soil, however, if this is not enough, try adding sulfer (get it from a farm supply store). - Monday, April 07, 2008Blue Roses Reviewed By: Jen (Gainesville, FL) Blue is actually a very difficult color to achieve in roses as they do not produce "delphinidin" a protein responsible for the blue color iN other flowers. This picture is probably doctored. However, I find that the Blue Girl rose is a lovely shade of pinky-lavender and definitely a hardy plant with beautifully scented flowers. Worth buying - just don't expect true blue. Read More Reviews |
