Honey-Sweet Fragrance
(4 customer reviews)Foot-long clusters of delicately hued, fragrant lavender flowers cascade from sweeping branches in summertime--the honey-sweet scent perfumes the air on quiet evenings. Velvety green seed pods follow the Wisteria flowers and cling well into winter. Grows 6-8 feet tall. Prepruned to tree form (prune regularly or it will revert back). Bareroot. Zones: 5-8. There are quite a few of these trees in our area - zone 8. We love to watch the one closest to our home bloom. What a knock out ! The long whispy branch look with these purple flowers are simply gorgeous. We took pictures of it this year. It must be an old specimen as the trunk is old, twisted and knarly looking. They do have it trimmed to keep it shaped like an umbrella like tree. It provides nice shade under it. Standing under it the scent is intoxicating and the tree buzzed with tons of bees. You might think the tree is alive, there was so much activity going on. The blooms don't last long enough on it, maybe about 6 weeks from March until now - late April?. One of the prettiest pictures we have is, the ground was littered with the flowers under it, our youngest daughter was collecting them and they weren't sticky. - Monday, June 02, 2008good start Reviewed By: simon (harvard, illinois) off to a good start. ordered 1 in april got here in may. initially I was a little skeptical, came as a foot long stick but it has since sprouted buds then leaves and seems to be doing well. we'll see how it winters. but it is already outgrowing two other wisterias I bought from a local place. - Friday, March 16, 2007Beautiful Tree Reviewed By: Cheryl (East Troy, WI) This tree is beautiful. We bought one from our local wal-mart several years ago not knowing much about it. Turns out it was one of the best purchases we ever made. Ours turned out to be as wide as it was tall and full of long fragrant flowers. I really hated leaving it when we moved and wanted to get another for our new home, but couldn't find one anywhere. I was thrilled when I found one in the gurneys catalogue. I now have 3 wisterias and plan to buy another. They are not as big as the one at our old home, but I am willing to wait for such a beautiful tree. Read More Reviews |
