Doesn't deserve its puckery reputation. Let the deep reddish-orange fruits set awhile to sweeten. Attractive fall foliage. Fruit starts out with a tangy apricotlike flavor, but develops a rich sweetness after first frost. 35- to 60-ft. tree is lovely enough to be used as an ornamental, with golden fall foliage and attractive deep orange fruit that will hang till midwinter, lending color to the winter landscape. Plant two for pollination.

Many of the fruits are native species that grow wild in various parts of the country. They are very adaptable and generally carefree. A few are delicious when eaten fresh; others make excellent desserts and wines.

You must wait

This is the sweetest persimmon there is BUT you must let them set until they are VERY soft almost mushy. THEN and only then will they be any good. Before that they will turn your mouth inside out. Patience pays off.

I purchased 2 of these trees a few years ago. I was excited when I saw them full of fruit this year. Even when soft they made you pucker really bad and they were full of seeds the size of watermelons seeds. No doubt I am very disappointed. I am giving them away to a relative that knows and still wants them. I will be ordering 2 more trees from another catalog that is advertising pucker free fruit. It states that even when firm they are always sweet.
