Red Delicious Apple Tree
Red Delicious Apple Tree
An American Classic

  (3 customer reviews)

Discovered in the early 1800s, Red Delicious has now been replaced as America's favorite by newer varieties, like Sundance, Pixie Crunch and Red-Luscious. Red Delicious is still very good when eaten close to harvest. Ripens mid-Sept.

Now you can grow delicious, full-size apples no matter how small your garden! Imagine picking 1/2 bushel or more apples from each of your Li’l-BIG trees just a few years after planting them in the ground! If you have limited space or simply want a little tree with big benefits,
Li'l-BIG is for you. Reaching 6 ft. tall at the most and producing half a bushel of fruit, Li'l-BIG are a snap to spray, prune and harvest compared to standard size trees.

Zones: 5-8.

Red apples

What most people dont reazile is that they must read the fine print on these trees like the 'pollinator' section. Its sort of like people being that it take two to make apples. While some are self-fertile, most are not and need one of the 'pollinator' trees to work.. Now on to taste; while I like many apple types better, the neighbors and kids like them so I keep the tree. Besides I'm not throwing away a good tree.

one bad apple?
Reviewed By: Jon Clough (Rochester, NH)
My kids and I love the Red Delicious apples we get from the supermarket. So I thought why not grow some? I've given the tree at least seven years now and I still haven't seen even one apple. The golden delicious trees we purchased at the same time are doing well but that red delicious tree still isn't much bigger than when I bought it. It only grows two inches a year...definitely not what I expected. On the other hand dealing with Gurneys has been a pleasure. That why I continue to do business with them. I fact, I'm here to order another tree to replace the Red Delicious tree. The Gurneys no hassle guarantee is real. They would probably replace the tree if I asked them.
