Gurney's complete Seed Starting Kit allows you to quickly, easily and successfully start all kinds of seeds. Each kit contains everything you need for fast germination and vital root growth.

Grow Plugs are the easiest & best seed starting method we've ever found!
  • Soil-less Grow Plugs are made of natural, biodegradable materials so that each plug can be directly transplanted into the garden greatly reducing transplant shock.
  • Pre-formed holes in each plug allow for easy planting of each seed, with no need to fuss with messy potting soil, or covering your seeds.

    Good Concept. Lousy Results

    I could not be more disappointed in this product. Seeds took over a week to germinate, and then most have either died, or are barely surviving. I have to re-plant everything in the old-school planting mix if I want to have any garden this year. I am an experienced gardener, and followed instructions to the letter. I say, get some good seed starter mix and stick with the old fashioned method.

    Very Disappointed

    This is my first year starting seeds from a kit. I purchased the kit in addition to 55 extra plugs. I also had the correct heating mat and gro light. I had terrible results. While 60% of the seed germinated, the seedlings did not grow lateral roots. I believe this is because the plug material is very dense like a sponge. After 6-8 weeks, my seedlings were still only 3-4 inches high. I had to try to extricate them from the plugs but have not had much success. Out of 75 seedlings, I have only 5 that are over 3 inches tall. I have started over with a tray and mix. Do not purchase the plugs!

    Not an Improvement or worth the money

    I started around 1500 seedlings this year so I bought half of these and half the old style 98-hole grow mats. The old style grow mat was reliable and successful as I expected, but this new system with plugs has been just terrible. I think the seeds sit too deep, so they get too much water and not enough light, even though I followed directions exactly, and have grow lights over each kit. My peppers and tomatoes grew, but they grew slowly and suffered, and after a month and a half, some of them don't even have their second leaves yet - I doubt they'll survive. In the old system, they're flourishing and growing like crazy - had their second leaves within weeks. I will not buy this new system again, and I hope they don't plan to discontinue the old grow mats, or they'll lose a long-time customer.
