Large & Hardy Plants
Reviewed By: Mike (Metro Detroit, MI)
I purchased 4 packets of this seed last spring, and planted a 30' double row of the basil on Memorial Day weekend. Seedlings were breaking ground within 10 days, and the plants did well as long as they got watered daily. As soon as the mid-day temps broke ~85 F or so, the plants started to bolt. I pinched back the flower heads to promote branching, and come fall the single stalk plants became 4' tall bushes. Once the temps dropped and frost was eminent, I harvested all the plants; yielded (16) 1/2 pints of Pesto & 1.5 Quarts worth dried & crushed. I would definitely buy this herb again. Thanks Gurneys!

Giving away basil
Reviewed By: Heather (Houston, TX)
Every purchased basil plant bolted within weeks in our heat. I decided to try seed to see if I could harvest more leaves . . . oh, boy, do we have basil! Every seed has grown into a very happy plant. I've made pesto several times, tossed it in pastas and soups, and have given away quart-bags full to several guests. You'd still never know the plants had given up a leaf. I'll be making many more pestos and herb butters with a single seed packet, and planting more every year. Thanks, Gurney's!
