Better instructions needed for critter attacks
Reviewed By: Ira Miller (Skokie, IL)
The tree was a bit smaller than I expected, but it did fill up the length of the shipping box, including the roots. I planted it exactly as instructed a day after arrival. The root packing was still moist. The instructions said to put the shield around the trunk in the fall, so I only put a short fence around the base. The stem stayed green but none of the twigs budded. After a month I got growth from a new branch and it took off pretty well through July. In mid July a rabbit chewed part of the bark around the base. I put some tape over the damage and put a two foot shield up close around the trunk to keep any others away. The second week in August it was snapped in half, likely from a squirrel that climbed to the top. If you live in an area with rabbits and squirrels, you should support the whole trunk with a stake and enclose as much of the trunk with a barrier as possible. I may try again next year.

I got the peach in the spring, it has been planted for a few months. It looks very healthy and is growing just fine.
