almost fantastic
Reviewed By: Kitty Brougham (Omaha, Nebraska)
I planted a wintergreen last year in a spot between my house and my neighbor's that is shaded most of the day. The "almost" part is the plant has not grown and may be stunted, and I have not seen any blossoms yet as of May 21. The spot is watered regularly, well drained and it is not competing with other plants, but perhaps there is not enough sun or the Ph is not optimum? However - it is a pretty plant and if it's spreads it has the potential to be the nicest ground cover I've ever had. It even keeps it's color in harsh Nebraska winters! And BEST of all, last year it had one berry. And the berries are fantastic! A shot of intense wintergreen with a natural sweetness. I am praying for blooms so that everyone in the family can have one this fall, and I am planting more in hopes they take. A very cool plant if I can figure out how to keep it happy!
