White flowers wearing a spiked or spiky crown of violet are unusual, and according to legend, commemorate the Crucifixion. Large blooms are followed by egg-shaped, deep orange fruits that have a flavor reminiscent of blackberries and are good for baking. Benefits from hoop or trellis support and enjoys full sun. Potted plants. Zones 8-10, but can be grown as a house or patio plant in northern areas.

Requires moist air/humidity. Day temperature 70-75 degrees F; night temperature 55-60 degrees F. Fertilize only when plant is actively growing or flowering. Will not bloom in low light. Few pests. Soil should be moist, but not overly soggy. Frequent misting with clear water will provide humidity. An outstanding source of vitamins A&C.

This is so lovely, but after the flower has come out, there is a small ball coming out of the flower. It looks like a lime growing out of the flower.

This plant is extremely beautiful ! I first encountered with the plant when I was a young girl, I have never forgotten this plant and may I add as a young girl, I even tasted the bold that grows after. I want to say it was very tasty and I am still here as healthy as one can be.
