Very Invasive - be careful where you plant them
Reviewed By: Laura G (South Windsor, CT)
A friend gave me some of these plants a few years ago. Not knowing exactly what they were (my mistake) I planted them in a formal garden bed along my sidewalk. BIG MISTAKE! They took over, crowding out everything else in their path, the same season I planted them. I tried digging them up to replant somewhere else (since I hate to just compost an otherwise healthy perennial). The root structure was so healthy that it was more like "tearing them out" than digging them out. I went carefully through the ground, trying to make sure I had removed every vestige of root. Unfortunately I missed a few pieces, and within a few weeks they came up and took over the bed again. On a good note, where I planted them as a ground cover they are thriving and holding down the ground just fine. But please don't ever plant these in any formal bed. You will be dealing with removing them for years. But if you are looking for a carefree plant to take over an area, this is it. They thrive in sun or shade.
