I ordered Hops roots from Gurneys 10 years ago. We live at 8000 feet and every summer the hops vines quickly shoot up and completely cover the fence they are against. The actual hops buds are so pretty in late summer. They survive our very harsh winters. Warning, once the hops are established they will be there to stay. Great, quick privacy cover every summer!

First year it didn't amount to much - just a couple of wimpy sprigs sticking out of the ground. Second year - WOW. Grew 15 feet tall. I called Gurneys to find out the variety for home brewing. This is the "Gold Nugget" variety, which can be used in recipes as a bittering agent.

This vine took off and started multiplying! They started producing hops the first (last) year and we are sure we will get an even better batch this year. My husband is a brewer and looking forward to try them out.
