It produced some the fall of the first year and is a very good producer with little care. The thorns are no real problem and the plants do not have to be trellised if you do not want to. It is my favorite raspberry variety and has proven itself. Heritage Raspberries freeze well and do not crumble very much at all.  -  Wednesday, July 04, 2007 Success Reviewed By: Paul (Iowa City, IA) I purchased a Heritage raspberry cane from another nursery, but when I opened the package the “dormant” cane looked more like a dead stick. I planted the "dormant" cane, but it still looks like a dead stick nearly two months later. In contrast, the three dormant canes I purchased from Gurneys arrived in good shape, and I had green leaves and blooms in no time. I have a 2 boys 5 and 2 years old. They love them they will look to see if some are ripe every time they go outside and the 2 year old keeps saying "I want more!!" So I'm back to order more plants.
