Early and Tender
(12 customer reviews)The industry standard for Northern growers! Noted for cool soil emergence and seedling vigor. Gives you exceptional quality for an early variety - large, sweet, greattasting 9-in. ears. Choose from Yellow or Bicolor Northern Xtra-Sweet. 67 DAYS. Sweet corn has come a long way! Choose from high-sugar hybrids (su) that are sweeter at harvest and stay that way for up to 10 days, super-sweet hybrids (sh2) with their even higher sugar content and crisp texture, and sugary-enhanced hybrids (se) that are sweet, creamy and extra tender. The sweetness level does not merit an sh2 billing. It had a more traditional sweet corn flavor that was not realized until the corn was at full maturity, It had little or no flavor if picked before. The downside of that was some loss of tenderness. Does not even come close to Gotta Have It in sweetness,...but is very user friendly and ALOT easier to grow. broadcast 20-20-20 at planting, probably should have hit it again mid-life, but still got 2 ears per stalk, albeit only about 7-8 inch ears on plants 6 1/2 feet tall. Just not as sweet as I hoped it would be. - Monday, September 07, 2009Northern Xtra Sweet Bicolor Hybrid Sweet Corn Reviewed By: Roberta Bennett (Cowen, WV) This is the best bicolor corn I've ever tasted. The texture is nice and the crunch is great even after cooked. Just sweet enough. - Wednesday, October 15, 2008Great Growing Sweet Corn Reviewed By: Dean Taylor (Skiatook, Oklahoma) I bought this corn for our small home garden. I planted it and only about 1/3 of it came up. But I later realised that the planter I used was the culprit not the seed corn. Planted again by hand and got 95 to 100 % germination. Produced early great tasting beautiful ears of corn. But only harvested about one ear per stalk. Again it was not the corn seed . I didn't fertalize it or weed it. I plan on planting an acre of this corn next year and take better care of it. It is the best corn I've planted in the last 20 years. Read More Reviews |
