Product Details
Zones: 3-9 annual Spacing: 3" Depth: 1/4 " Sun/Shade: full sun Germination: 5 - 7 days Days To Maturity: 40-70 days Fruit: Grows several types of lettuce fro a mix of colors and textures. Leaf lettuce has loose rosettes, produces over a longer season and is more heat tolerant. Head lettuce forms round heads and tends to be more crispy in texture
| Comments: Lettuce is a cool weather crop you can plant in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. You can also plant in late summer for a fall crop. In zone 8 or warmer, sow in early fall for winter crop. Plant lettuce in a light, sandy, rich, fertile soil that is neutral and well drained. Sow the seed in row 12 – 18 inches apart, making sure the seed is not covered (needs light to germinate). Space leaf type lettuce 4-6 inches and head type 10-12 inches apart. Seeds may also be started indoors 4 weeks before planting outside. Do not cover seed and maintain temperature in medium of 65-70 degrees. Germination takes 7-10 days. Successive plantings can be done as long as the temperature is below 80 degrees. Fertilize with a basic garden fertilizer prior to planting and again every 3 weeks after planting. Cultivate shallowly. If transplanting, harden off a least 7 days before setting out to avoid transplant shock. Plants do best if keep consistently moist. Harvest leaf lettuce when leaves are young and tender. Head lettuce is harvested after heads are formed.
