A hint for getting your beans off to a good start in the spring, when the weather can turn cold on you: start the seeds germinating between damp paper towels indoors in a warm spot. When you see the beans swell and the little roots start to poke out from between the cotyledons, then plant them and they will take right off without rotting in the soil. I save plastic take out containers for little mini-seed starter cases, labeled on tape on the outside. - Friday, January 15, 2010stringy Reviewed By: Susan (Wilton, Maine) I grew both the green and yellow pole beans last year and will not grow this kind again. If you like strings then this is the one to get. The flavor is fine and they canned up ok. - Monday, February 23, 2009Bad Luck Reviewed By: Lisa (Two Harbors, Minnesota) I have grown beans for many years now, normally bush beans, I thought I would try pole beans once, I'm very sorry I did, I live in zone 4 and I couldn't get these beans to take off for nothing, I normally have more beans then I know what to do with, I think for the 20 seeds I planted I ended up with maybe 2 dozen beans, I will be going back to the push beans.
