This 6- to 8-ft. shrub will yield an abundance of rich blue berries that ripen up over two weeks before strawberries! Exceptionally hardy and not bothered by disease or insects, Honeyberry is a joy to grow! Thrives in partial shade. Plant two varieties for pollination. Bought one of each variety, planted and waited, a few years went by and nothing. They didn't grow or produce. Finally they died.

Waiting to see what happens next year

When my honeyberries arrived they looked dead. But after a month of watering and waiting they started to grow new leaves. My first group fruited 2 years after planting. Not a very big crop to say the least- about a hand full. I am not sure but I don't think I planted 2 varieties. I didn't know better. So this year I got some more and did get different varieties. So I am looking forward to seeing what comes up next year.

Turned out well

The first order looked suspiciously close to death. In fact, one of the two required for pollination did completely die. The other was on the ropes. I called and the Gurney rep promptly replaced with healthier looking specimens. I planted them, plus the one that was clinging to life. All three did very well the first year in marginal soil and I have every reason to believe they will produce as advertised.
