The Crimson King Maple offers spectacular color that you have to see to believe--dark purple right from the start, deepens in hue to an intense burgundy. Grows 40-50 feet tall, spreads 30-40 feet. Well branched with sturdy limbs.

Comments: If soil is heavy, mix with peat moss, dehydrated cow manure, or compost. Hold plant in hole with previous planting stain at ground level.Spread roots, add soil to fill 1/2 way, compact soil, complete filling, compact soil, water well. Beautiful dark purple folilage deepens into intense burgandy by summer. Water deeply once per week to keep the tree at its best. Feed yearly with a commercial 10-10-10 according to directions. Prune in late summer if needed. One of the most popular lawn specimens due to habit and color.

These are the most beautiful maple trees, I have ever seen. Must see the color to believe. Huge leaves that stay a deep purple throughout the season from start to finish. They line one of our streets and look so lovely!

My wife and I bought a home in January 2007. As spring arrived we were pleasantly surprised when the large maple in our front yard turned out to be a Crimson King! The leaves come in such a deeply rich red color. As the year goes on the leaves deepen more to a burgundy. Our home was built in 1960 and the tree must have been planted years before, as the trunk is about 2 feet in diameter. The tree is 25 feet high and wide, is the most strikingly beautiful we have ever seen. Many people in the neighborhood have approached us this past year to tell us how much they have always loved the tree. It is much slower growing than a standard sugar maple, but well worth the wait! I recommend this tree to anyone looking for that "focal point" in their yard.
