An Excellent Screen!
(14 customer reviews)A fast-growing privacy screen! Castor Bean grows 10-12 feet tall with gigantic veined leaves. Prefers full sun. Direct sow after last frost or start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Perennial in zones 8-10, annual elsewhere. Approx. 10 seeds per pkt. Annual flowers are easy to grow, bloom over a long period and allow you to enjoy a whole new look every year. Mass large numbers of them in beds and borders for a stunning color display, or tuck smaller numbers of them into perennial planting that need a little extra pizzazz. Note: Castor Bean seeds are poisonous. Some gardeners, especially those with small pets and children, may choose to remove and discard any seedpods that develop on the plant for this reason. Surprisingly it did winter over tho' and provided two extra "volunteers" this season (that became great passalong gifts). I love the subtle coloring, leaf shape and bright flower at the top. - Saturday, May 16, 2009Kills Moles Reviewed By: Doug (Birmingham, Alabama) I plan to buy several of these plants. My neighbor actually wants them for one specific reason. Many years ago, her father in law used the to kill moles. She has tried everything and her yard is infested with moles that eat the roots from her other plants and have destroyed her yard. It is understood that the moles will feed on the roots and the toxicity will kill them. FYI - Tuesday, January 13, 2009Memories of castor bean plants Reviewed By: wGoddard (derry, nhy) I remember my mother planting castor bean plants beside our small apartment in a trailer part we lived in in the 50's. Well she got so much attention and so many compliments about them! They were vibrant, tall, refreshing, they added beauty to a place that needed it! I was so proud of her. They are a special plant for me to remeber them all these years. Read More Reviews |
