I planted these for the 1st time last year 2011. It was like watching a time capsule explode. They started out at a mere 3-4 inch plant and by mid summer they were 14ft+ high. Every time I walked out onto my deck, I felt like I was in a tropical paradise. How beautiful they were. Wow! I bought 4 plants last year, this year I doubled it. I have shared this with all my friends and now they too are on board!

Wonderful plants!

These are great plants that have many uses. We planted ours as a border in our vegetable garden. And as summer closes you can save seeds for next summer. We got enough seeds from 2 plants by the end of October for the whole town. They're extremely prolific. You have to be careful as the seeds start to mature that you have to catch them before they completely dry and pop right off of the mother plant. They litterally do pop off of the mother plant.

Huge plants

I bought a pack of seeds last year and stuck just three seeds in the ground in a 5 foot long bed next to my deck. By late summer they were so tall they blocked the view from the deck and they were wide enough that they took the entire 5 foot bed up. At the end of the growing season I had to cut the stocks down with a saw. These plants need lots of sun but zero maintenance. (I planted a couple more seeds in a slightly shaded area and they only got 4 feet tall) The leaves are huge and very attractive and the stocks are similar to bamboo. I am planting more this year, but now that I know they get 15 feet tall I'm putting them further out in the yard.
