Clusters of violet-blue blossoms fill the air with perfume in spring. Slightly weeping vine climbs to 20 ft. supported. Prefers full sun.

Zones: 3 - 9 (-30° F.). Requires some shelter to protect its flower buds from frost damage. Requires sturdy supports or trellising. Height: 15 - 45 feet Spacing: 10 feet Depth: Place in a hole 2 times as wide and deep as the pot; plant top of root ball at soil surface. Spread: 10' Sun/Shade: Full sun Color: Violet-blue Foliage: 7 - 13 large leaflets - individual leaves ovate-lanceolate up to 3" long Blooms: Late spring to early summer for 2-3 weeks

Comments: Mix peat moss, compost, or well-rotted manure deeply into the soil. Keep soil conditions moist but not soggy. Mulch to help retain moisture. Feed with a 5-10-5 fertilizer in the spring. Train so main stems are kept separate. Prune laterals that arise from main stems back to 6 inches in midsummer. Shorten laterals to 2 buds in midwinter. Needs strong support. Type of support will depend on vine size and type of pruning. Seeds and pods may be toxic to some extent if ingested. May take 5 years or more to bloom. Vines from left to right.
