Plump, heavily petaled red peony measures 6-8 in. across. Dark, glossy foliage springs up in a hurry; forms a good-looking backdrop for the spectacular blossoms. Shrublike mounds are 2-3 ft. high and ornamental even after the flowers fade—around midsummer. Creates a low-growing, low-maintenance hedge that never needs pruning! Plant in full sun. No. 1 root divisions with 2-3 eyes. Zones 3-8.

Loooong story but great plant
Reviewed By: Katherine (Los Alamos , NM)
I first ordered this in 2005, I believe. Sufficice it to say I have major gopher problems. I put the poor peony in the wrong part of the yard. It was a beautiful start. They say expect 2-3 eyes, but this one had at least 4 eyes. Just as it was starting to grow little tiny shoots above ground, it got stolen by one of the varmints! I explained the whole situation to Gurney's and they remidied it immediately--sent me a new one as soon as their stock was dormant for the fall. It is now thriving in a gopher free area of the yard! BIG HEALTHY PLANT! Next time I order I will buy some sort of gopher repelleing plant to protect the precious peonies!
